Hey I’m Reid! I’ve done some jobs and projects in the past that have given me skills that are needed for Product Management so I am looking to transition to it. I saw that Prowess has group projects.
If we’re all product managers, how does that work when trying to build a product together without designers, engineers, etc? Hope people can share if the experience working in the groups was helpful for you or not. Thanks for your time!
Group projects consist of a team of 2-4 professionals looking to get hands-on experience as a product manager.
The team is assigned a big enough project so that each person has a meaty workstream to focus on
The projects are divided into 3 types - research and analysis, design, and live product
Some projects are a combination of two types to give the team enough room to grow
The deliverables could include a roadmap, PRD, or a product vision presentation to leadership. It could also include design mocks and low-fidelity prototypes.
The goal is to let everyone build the muscle of understanding the problem area and then building a solution. This also involves talking to users, running surveys, and collating feedback to identify the problem area.
Once you have completed the project, you get feedback from an experienced product manager (example)
You also give anonymous feedback to your teammates, making sure people are learning to improve soft skills along with hard skills
This work eventually increases your skills score and adds the project to your portfolio.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have follow-ups.
