How to build data infrastructure for customer-facing/in-product/embedded analytics

We have a dashboard and analytics feature as part of our product (an employee app for frontline workers), which allows company admins to dig into usage and engagement data. As we scale, we’re now starting to evaluate options for how to revamp and build out a new, more performant infrastructure for powering these dashboards.

However, most resources and best practices I can find seem focused around internal data and reporting, i.e. building out an infrastructure for BI, product analytics, etc. Obviously we’d love to cover this use case with the same infrastructure - but we need something that will also work to serve analytics to our customer dashboard and the differences this brings in terms of load and queries.

We’re in the early stages of discovery, so curious if anyone has recommendations, ideas, inspiration or best practices I could look at and share with the team?
