Which computer science major is the most suitable for a career as a product manager?

@DhirajMehta, Thanks for your response and don’t want to detract from the good advice you’ve given me but just want to clear something up about the E-3 Visa. The E-3 Visa requires little complications and is only for Australian citizens, it is much like the Canadian working visa in that there is no hard cap quota like the usual H-1B Visa. However from my understanding, recruiters and HR aren’t too familiar with the E-3 Visa and as a result treat it the same way as a H-1B applicant, which more often than not means disregarding the application all together. I guess in hindsight, if/when I do apply, I would need to contact recruiters directly to clear up any misconceptions about the visa.

Interesting. I’ve only had to deal with H-1B visas.

From the looks of it, BISM looks like the most generic applicable in a PM role. However, if you’re ambitious about a PM role in, for instance, cyber security, then you would have a kick start going from the specific major.

As mentioned by others here in the comments, you would go with something you’re passionate about instead of focusing on a single career path. As far as I’m concerned, you’re already in the right future-proof industry so you would rather go with something you’ll be loving to do each and every day.

Hope this helps! Feel free to address any concerns or questions you’re still having.

@NaomiNwosu, Appreciate the advice. I actually do have a strong interest for cyber security/pen-testing but unfortunately there aren’t many APM roles in Sydney let alone APM’s at security firms. As I’ve said in another comment, my plan is to probably apply for a FAANG in the US and get visa sponsored, so having a background in cyber sec wouldn’t seem too valuable if I go that route. As much as I like cyber security, having a career as a PM seems much more worthwhile and rewarding to me.
