Assertiveness is the most typical disparity I’ve noticed across my reports.
There are many places in where Product does have authority, but it can be challenging to do so without assertion, thus I think the disciplinary stereotype of “influence without authority” might be a little misleading.
And even in situations when you don’t have it formally, authority is frequently obtained by demonstrating that you are aware of the requirements of your team, company, and clientele.

Preach. You either earn it or you lose it because this line is so thin. In smaller companies, it is better to just move on rather than trying to define your influence and authority because it will never happen if there is no alignment of vision or strategy.
