@Christie, Oh, ya definitely. I did not mean to give the impression that you are not allowed any downtime. Each of us has to decide how to structure our work time to make sure we are effective and happy.
The idea is that you can plan your work out so that you don’t have a boom and bust cycle. If you are rushing to put out a bunch of specs and stories for your team then have nothing to do it means you did too much. You should be able to give your team a steady stream of work. That way you won’t burn out or get bored with down time.
Personally, I consider any downtime as an opportunity to figure out what we can do next that delivers value to customers or to strengthen a skill / my knowledge in some way. On rare occasions, I jump in to help the team with smaller distracting tasks that need to get done, while they focus on more pressing work.
There are always ways to fill that gap from 0 to 100. That said, never underestimate the opportunity to recharge your battery.
